Mina McCluskey

 Motivational Speaker

Mina McCluskey struggled with mental health challenges for decades in silence, before taking the plunge and talking openly about it…and she hasn’t looked back since!

In the last three years, Mina has been a tireless advocate for the mental health community.  She has spoken at events such as The Walk for Suicide Awareness and Prevention.  As a former patient of Homewood Health Centre, she has shared her story with current patients, to offer hope and encouragement.  She even created a uniquely tailored public speaking initiative for the local mental health community.

Mina McCluskey is a powerful speaker who moves and inspires audiences with her passion, humour and sincerity.  Mina believes that society, as a whole, has the power to eradicate the stigma of mental illness with one simple act…that is, the simple act of speech.

SAMPLE KEYNOTE SPEECHES

Shatter the Silence

Mental illness affects us either directly or indirectly, yet it is rarely the topic of open discussion. Join Mina as she takes you on her powerful journey of recovery.  Be inspired to shatter the silence in your own family, community, and network.  Discover how opening the channels of communication can bring about understanding, hope and healing.

The Hero Behind the Mask

The word “Hero” conjures an image of a masked super-human whose strength and fearlessness we want to emulate.  But is society’s obsession with “putting on a brave face” hindering our collective mental health?  Mina believes that being more open about our vulnerabilities can actually make us stronger as a society.  Armed with sensitivity and humour, Mina challenges us to access our own “Hero Within”, by taking the mask off instead of putting one on!

Get Hooked!

With a good dose of humour, Mina reflects on her experiences as a novice hockey player, and convinces audiences that having a true passion is essential to leading a fulfilling life.  So, regardless of your age, your skill level or the size of your wallet, get ready to get hooked!

Where’s your Sense of Humour?

Ever wonder where that phrase came from?  Take a look at it through the eyes of a 7-year old budding scientist, as Mina shares stories about her attempts to “find” her sense of humour as a child.  Chances are good that you’ll have found yours by the end!

“You were electrifying – a great way to end the evening!”
    Cathleen Fillmore, President, SpeakersGold

“…Everywhere I go, people are talking about how great your speech was at The Walk and how impactful it was.”
Jessie Baynham, Executive Director, Distress Centre Wellington-Dufferin

“…I had 3 patients spontaneously speak to me about your talk.  One lady said she was going to skip relaxation, but after hearing you, she knew she had to devote the time to her recovery.  Another fellow said that it was the turning point in his experience of hope.  Another mentioned what a positive experience it was to listen to you speak.”
    Denise Jennings, Homewood Health Centre
