Sharon Babineau
Inspirational Speaker, Loss Coach, Meditation Guide
Sharon Babineau shares personal life experiences to explain her inner strength. She believes we all have the ability to overcome even the most devastating of life’s moments and continue to live life fully. She inspires her audiences to embrace their right to happiness after life-changing losses. She chose to honour and celebrate the experiences of caring for her terminally ill husband and his death from ALS after nine years; and the overhwelming loss of her daughter to cancer just six years later.
It was through her daughter, who was diagnosed at the age of 12 and passed away at the age of 15, that she learned the spirit cannot be broken. She made a promise on her daughter’s deathbed to be strong and to be happy. Slowly, through lots of healing, Sharon decided to live fearlessly, and passionately embraces sharing Maddie’s story and its lessons with others. Magic began to happen and the universe responded. Sharon was hijacked by Phil Keoghan (The Amazing Race) and flown to Africa to film No Opportunity Wasted; she attended the teachings of the Dalai Lama; and (at the age of 47) she learned to play hockey and played on the NHL alumni team in a charity game for Help a Child Smile.
Sharon’s life purpose is to help others through their journey of sorrow and loss, and lead them to a place where they too can embrace hope, peace, and happiness.
Keynotes:
The Girl Who Gave Her Wish Away
This is the story of Maddie. It is a powerful message of how a girl, diagnosed with terminal cancer and given the chance to fulfill a wish, anything she wanted, chose to use her wish to build a school in Africa to make life better for the forgotten children there. It is an inspirational message that illustrates the power of one person to change the world through kindness and compassion for others
The Invisible Patient
Every caregiver is exhausted by the demands placed on them, and their needs are often overlooked, not only by others, but by themselves. Sharon uses her personal experiences to provide the tools to create “Self-Care”. Discover how to accept the situation, organize yourself, and identify how others can help you. You can learn to relax, recharge and embrace your right to be happy. (Yes, you have a right to be happy!)
Insights from the Side of the Bed
Stephen Babineau was diagnosed with ALS and told he had two years to live. Instead of following advice and preparing to die, he got married, fathered two children (Maddison and Derek) and lived with ALS for 9 years. Maddie was diagnosed with cancer and lived with the disease for 3 years. Sharon shares the experiences of her journey through the eyes of a caregiver. This is a message of hope to enable medical professionals to give the best care possible.
Living Fearlessly – A Gift to Yourself
In spite of bureaucratic obstacles, tremendous challenges, and overwhelming losses, Sharon embraces the lessons and celebrates the journeys to living her life fearlessly. A mother, widow, decorated military soldier, mountain climber, hockey player, and runner, she has appeared on TV and radio, given keynotes and workshops, and is a support group facilitator. She attended the teachings of the Dalai Lama and leads meditations. She says, “If I can heal, you can, too.”
